Jackson County Criminal History Laws

Oregon criminal history records are confidential under ORS 181A.220. Fingerprints, photos, and compiled reports are exempt from public inspection. The only ways to access them are through court order, specific statutes, or by reviewing your own file. The Oregon State Police is the central repository for this data.

When someone requests criminal history on another person, ORS 181A.245 requires the state to send written notice to the subject. The notice goes to their last known address. It includes a copy of all data that will be released. The subject gets 14 days to challenge any errors. After that window, the record is sent. The released data includes the arrest date, offense, arresting agency, court of origin, and sentence details. The match is based on name similarity only, not fingerprints.

Requesting Criminal Records by Mail

The Oregon State Police accepts mail-in requests for criminal history. The fee is $33.00 per request, whether the person has a record or not. To request your own record, fill out the Copy of Own Record form and submit fingerprints. The fingerprint fee is $30.00. Mail everything to: Oregon State Police, CJIS Division, Unit 11 PO Box 4395, Portland, Oregon 97208.

To request someone else's record, use the Request for Another Person's Criminal History form. Include the $33.00 fee. Results are mailed back. Processing takes 7 to 10 business days. The OSP cannot speed up the process. If no record exists, you get a notice stating no criminal history was found in Oregon.

In-person fingerprinting is available at OSP headquarters in Salem, at 3565 Trelstad Ave SE, Salem, OR 97317. Hours are 8am to 4:30pm, Monday through Friday. You can also use the OSP online portal to start a request. Payment by Visa or Mastercard is accepted in person at the Salem office.

Note: The Oregon Department of Corrections offender search at www.oregon.gov/doc contains records from 1982 to present and can be searched by name or SID number.
