This is the fastest way to find basic criminal history data in Columbia County. Just type in a name and see what comes back. The search results list the case number, charges, and next hearing date. It does not give you copies of the actual documents filed in the case. For those, you need to contact the court or use a paid service. Columbia County Sheriff Records

The Columbia County Sheriff's Office keeps its own set of criminal history files. These include arrest records, jail booking logs, and inmate data. They are not the same as court records. A person can be arrested and booked into jail without ever having a court case if charges are dropped.

To get arrest records or other law enforcement files from the Sheriff, you may need to submit a written request. Oregon's Public Records Law governs how these requests are handled. The Sheriff's Office can provide details on the steps you need to follow. You can also check with the Oregon State Police for a statewide criminal history check that covers all counties.

The state charges $33 per search. Results come by mail. Under ORS 181A.220, criminal history held by the state is confidential and exempt from public inspection except through approved channels.

Oregon Open Records Law

When you request criminal history on another person through the state, the process follows ORS 181A.245. The Oregon State Police sends notice to the person whose record was requested. The notice goes to their last known address. It includes a full copy of the data that will be shared. The person gets 14 days to challenge any errors before the record is released to you.

The data you receive includes the arrest date, the offense, the agency that made the arrest, the court where the case was filed, and the outcome. The response notes that the match is based on name and description only. Fingerprints do not confirm it. The state keeps a log of all requests made and all names searched. These logs are public records under Oregon law.

Note: If the person has no criminal record, the state responds that no record exists and releases nothing else.
